• Why Website Transparency Matters in Healthcare

Cincinnati Children’s is one of only two recipients to receive the Best Practices in Hospital Website Transparency Award from URAC and The Leapfrog Group, two healthcare quality measurement organizations.

The Excellence in Hospital Website Transparency Program identifies outstanding hospital websites that promote quality measures in useful, user-friendly ways for patients and families.

Cincinnati Children’s deep focus on quality improvement began more than a decade ago. During the past two years, the medical center has dramatically increased efforts to provide easy access to its quality and safe care information on the website.

Transparency makes a difference in healthcare quality for three main reasons:

    • Transparency strengthens a culture of inquiry and learning by providing all levels of the organization access to the same performance data and empowering employees to act upon it and improve.
    • Sharing information externally promotes an open and collaborative healthcare environment and invites other organizations to partner and explore new opportunities to improve child health.
    • Making the data available meets and exceeds the expectations of families and helps support their healthcare decisions for their children.

The content on the Outcomes and Quality Improvement section of the website reflects the medical center's transformational journey with key quality measures posted for all to see. Visitors can view performance data on patient and employee safety; patient and family experience; clinical outcomes; access, flow and productivity; and nursing turnover. In addition to hospital-level measures, a number of condition-specific outcomes and best evidence statements and clinical guidelines are shared.
