• New test panels recommend doses for pain, psychiatric medications

Cincinnati Children’s Genetic Pharmacology Services now offers expanded pharmacogenetic tests for drugs significantly metabolized by CYP2D6 and CYP2C19 with a fast turnaround time of 48 hours

These tests identify 21 clinically relevant variants (including deletion and duplications) in CYP2D6 and 8 clinically relevant variants in CYP2C19 and provide more accurate classification of a patient’s ability to metabolize specific medications than does previous genetic pharmacology testing. Better classification leads to more accurate dosing recommendations, thereby improving clinical outcome and reducing risks of adverse side effects.

    • Psychiatry Pharmacogenetics Expanded Panel includes dosing recommendations for 19 commonly prescribed psychiatry medications.
    • Opioid CYP2D6 Pharmacogenetics Panel includes dosing recommendations for four commonly prescribed opioids.

Testing is appropriate for any patient that may be new to one of these medications, has a lack of therapeutic effect or has difficulties with side effects from any of the medications metabolized by CYP2C19 or CYP2D6.
