2001-02 Research Highlights and Annual Report
From the Director
Dear Colleagues:
The year 2002 was a landmark for improving child health at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, thanks in part to the outstanding work done at Cincinnati Children's Research Foundation. I am proud to share with you some of our faculty's exciting achievements -- new approaches that are advancing the specialty of pediatrics and that, eventually, will ensure better care for infants, children and adolescents.
Growth is a hallmark of the Research Foundation -- now more than ever since our founding in 1931. In fiscal year 2002, our pediatric faculty numbered 354, with 298 having full-time primary appointments in the Department of Pediatrics, an increase of 18 percent over last fiscal year. We've also expanded the breadth of our research by adding new programs:
In 2002, sponsored program awards to the Research Foundation totaled nearly $90 million, up more than 25 percent from fiscal year 2001. This significant increase keeps Cincinnati Children's among the top three children's hospitals nationally in amount of funding from the National Institutes of Health.
I invite you to read on to learn how Cincinnati Children's is leading the way in bringing new hope for improved care to children and their families. If you would like more in-depth information on any of our programs, please refer to the PDFs of our individual division reports. We welcome your interest.
Sincerely,
