Funding Sources

Both external funding and internal funding drive Children's Hospital Research Foundation's ability to advance fundamental science and medicine. Funding from the National Institutes of Health continues to grow, with double-digit increases each of the last seven years. In fact, the Research Foundation ranks third in NIH grants to comprehensive children's hospitals. Grants from industry and not-for-profit organizations also are on the rise.

In addition, the substantial endowment established here in 1931 by William Cooper Procter, an early president of the Procter & Gamble Company, is still bearing fruit today. Internal funding assures that young researchers have the support they need to establish productive careers. And the Children's Leadership Advancement Initiative is enabling the Research Foundation to expand programs, attract new funding and hire additional world-class scientists.
