External Funding
In FY 2000, sponsored program awards to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Research Foundation exceeded $48.8 million, an increase of more than 16 percent over 1999. This was the seventh consecutive year for double-digit increases in external funding.
More than $32 million of this total was awarded by the National Institutes of Health. The rest came from other federal sources, industry, the State of Ohio and not-for-profit associations and foundations. The Research Foundation's three largest funders in FY 2000 were the NIH, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati.
The Research Foundation currently has a portfolio of 155 separate NIH awards to principal investigators within the Foundation and an additional 59 NIH subcontracts, most of them related to grants of other University of Cincinnati College of Medicine investigators.
We're committed to investing in the future by funding promising young investigators. In FY 2000, five young Research Foundation faculty were funded from the Child Health Research Center grant, which was renewed during 1998 for an additional five years.
In addition, Children's Hospital Research Foundation - where the Department of Pediatrics of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine is based - is home to 11 federally funded training grants.
