Funding Opportunities
The Translational Research Initiative (TRI) at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center supports faculty-initiated pre-clinical and clinical translational research projects and ensures adequate infrastructure to facilitate the rapid completion of these trials. The TRI funds research at different levels, and grant applications are subject to an internal peer-review process. The categories of support are outlined below.
Funding levels
- One-year grants from $50,000 to $100,000 for pre-clinical and translational projects.
- Competitive renewal awards for a second year of funding (under exceptional circumstances). These will undergo peer-review. Only projects funded during the previous year will be considered.
- Seed money to develop innovative cores, including educational cores, that support translational research at $25,000 to $50,000/year for two years.
- Multidisciplinary retreats at $3,000/retreat with matching funds derived from other resources (clinical or research divisions).
- One Translational Research Faculty Development Award will provide up to $100,000 to off-set loss of funds derived from other grants or clinical billings to allow 6 to 9 months of dedicated time in cross-training either in basic methods or in clinical trials and disease specific clinical care.
Note: The expectation is that initial funding will support preliminary work toward making external funding proposals competitive.
Eligibility
Applications will be accepted from all faculty, including nursing, health outcomes, and other health care faculty with advanced degrees (MD, PhD or MD/PhD or the equivalent). Clusters of investigators spanning disciplines and programs made up of basic and clinical faculty are particularly well-suited for this program initiative.
Review Process
To reduce administrative and faculty time, the review process is two-tiered. Initial submission is via a two page Letter of Intent (LOI). After initial review of the LOI, a limited numbers of researchers will be invited to submit a full 5-page proposal. A committee of scientists; clinical, translational, and health outcome researchers; clinicians and management representatives from Cincinnati Children's will review both the LOIs and the short proposals and make funding recommendations to the Chairman of Pediatrics and Director of Cincinnati Children's Research Foundation.
