Overview
The Biostatistics Consulting Center at Children's Hospital Medical Center of Cincinnati is directed by Judy A. Bean, Ph.D., professor of pediatrics. In addition, the program staff consists of two master's level biostatisticians and one research study coordinator. The additional personnel enabled the program to run more efficiently. Activities were not only increased, but were accomplished in a timely manner.
Dr. Bean serves as the biostatistician on three funded NIH grants. She and her staff assisted in the design and statistical analyses for 10 grants submitted to NIH and four K-23 applications. Dr. Bean serves as co-investigator on one proposal submitted to AHA and another submitted to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
In addition to the proposals submitted to outside agencies, the program assisted in the design and statistical analyses for two Cincinnati Children's Trustee Grants applications. Other activities include Dr. Bean as a co-investigator on a proposal submitted to NIH from the University of Cincinnati, and as a consultant on a program project application submitted to NIEHS from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
As the biostatistician for Cincinnati Children's General Clinical Research Center, Dr. Bean reviewed approximately 50 protocols and collaborated on design and analyses on eight projects. During the year, a master's level biostatistician received support from the funded research of Robert C. Whitaker, M.D. Funding was also received on a NIH contract with the Gamble Program in the Division of Infectious Diseases. Additional funding for statistical services provided by Dr. Bean came from Yale University, University of Miami, Bayer Corporation and Infectious Diseases.
