It delves into sources of costs in health care not always addressed including enrollment costs, error, language barriers, and health literacy.

Gerry Fairbrother, PhD, spoke at Grand Rounds on June 19, 2007 about "What is in store for Ohio Medicaid?" The talk addressed four topics: (1) Why Medicaid is important to children's hospitals and physicians, (2) Background on scope, quality, and financing of Medicaid services, (3) What is new in Ohio, and (4) What the future may hold.

June 2, 2007	Gerry Fairbrother	Child Health Research Meeting, Orlando, FL	Factors that Influence Adolescent Reporting of Counseling by Physicians on Risky Behavior	This presentation documents risky behavior by adolescents and shows that counseling by physicians about this behavior is low, despite being recommended by the Guidance for Adolescent Preventive Services. Also suboptimal is proportion of adolescents who have a private and confidential visit, as recommended.

This presentation was to Ohio Health Plans. It showed them level and cost of churning. The pertinent policy issue has to do with giving health plans a role in renewing coverage for their members.

This overview of quality initiatives in children's health was presented at the National Health Policy Forum in Washington, DC on April 14, 2007. There is growing interest in policy circles in strategies to address pediatric quality of care, particularly in light of the current discussions on the reauthorization of the State Child Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).
