Biochemistry Lab

Overview

At Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, the General Clinical Research Center's Biochemistry Core Laboratory provides investigators the following services:

As stipulated by the Scientific Advisory Committee, the Core Laboratory functions to more efficiently serve the common needs of the investigators. Major criteria for establishing assays in the Core Laboratory are:

  • The assay is unavailable in the clinical laboratories of participating medical centers.
  • Multiple investigators need the assay.
  • Acquiring the assay presents an opportunity to achieve substantial cost savings in the Core Laboratory.
  • Acquiring the assay presents an opportunity for improved quality control, more rapid turnaround, and assurance that sample sequence identity and sample availability and integrity are maintained.

The Core Laboratory can develop new tests with the approval of the Scientific Advisory Committee. Preference will be given to analyses used by more than one investigator and likely to be used by multiple investigators in the future.

New analyses are recommended by the program director and Core Laboratory director. Final approval to include tests in the Core Laboratory portfolio of assays is discussed by the Scientific Advisory Committee prior to providing the tests for investigators.

The Biochemistry Core Laboratory is CAP (College of American Pathologists) and CLIA Certified.
