Nutrition Research: Metabolic Kitchen Patient Treatment Facilities
Main Campus GCRC Unit
The Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center General Clinical Research Center is a twelve-bed inpatient unit and ambulatory care facility that spans nearly 11,000 square feet on the third floor of Location A. The research center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
For pediatric patients who cannot be hospitalized in the General Clinical Research Center, support is available for the use of "scatter" beds for research purposes in the Regional Center for Newborn Intensive Care and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Clinical services are available to support research at all facilities.
The research center has two treatment rooms on the unit and 12 outpatient examination rooms shared with the Diabetes Center and Endocrinology.

VA Satellite Facility
The VA GCRC Satellite Facility is a two-bed inpatient unit that has four outpatient exam rooms and three procedure rooms located on the fourth floor of the Cincinnati VA Medical Center, three blocks away from the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Main Campus. The outpatient facility operates 7 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday. Inpatient and sleep study facilities are available by arrangement. These facilities are used for adult subjects.

Cincinnati Center for Clinical Research (CCCR)
The CCCR is located on Cincinnati Children's Oak Campus six blocks from the Cincinnati Children's Main Campus. The facility has 18 exam rooms, a treatment room and a DXA. Projects with specific needs for high volume outpatient visits utilize this facility.

Core Laboratories
The GCRC Core laboratories provide diverse facilities for investigators.
- The Biochemistry Core Laboratory, located on the fourth floor of Location B, has 1,000 square foot laboratory with a staff of four experienced technicians, houses analytical techniques and equipment including a clinical chemistry analyzer, HPLC, RIA, ELISA, and IRMA.
- The Sample Processing Laboratory, located on the GCRC unit, has a refrigerated centrifuge and short-term storage available at temperatures of 0ºC, -20ºC, and -80ºC; also a YSI glucose analyzer for rapid bedside testing. Processing is available 24 hours a day by arrangement.

The Body Composition Core is located in the GCRC unit, and provides instrumentation for imaging techniques.

Nutrition Research Core
The Nutrition Research Core provides research equipment and a kitchen in the GCRC unit in addition to the metabolic kitchen.
- The metabolic kitchen at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Oak Campus is available for careful preparation of food in selected studies.
- The Main Campus GCRC unit also has a small kitchen for preparation of food and other test supplies.
- An indirect calorimeter is used for measurement of energy expenditure.
