• Fees for Chips and Services

    For most microarray projects there are three fees that determine the cost of the project. Those fees include the quality control fee, the target amplification and labeling fee, and the cost of the arrays.

    1. Quality control fee: The quality of the RNA for each sample will be analyzed using the Agilent Bioanalyzer. To cover necessary reagents costs, there will be a fee of $25 per sample.
    2. Target Amplification RNA labeling fee: Each RNA sample will be labeled using one of the target amplification protocols. The fee includes the cost of the reagents and the labor. The fee does not include the cost of the microarray. The cost per sample for each amplification protocol is included in the table located on the Target Amplification Protocols Page.

    Other Microarray Services

    Self –labeled samples:

    For investigators submitting biotin-labeled DNA samples to the core, the facility will charge a $50 hybridization fee per sample. The fee covers the cost of the hybridization and fluidic stations reagents. The fee does not include the cost of the array.

    Affymetrix Custom ReSequencing:

    There is a $150 custom resequencing fee per sample for researchers who design their own custom resequencing array. The fee covers the cost of the reagents for fragmentation, labeling, and hybridization.

    MicroRNA Arrays:

    Affymetrix has developed GeneChip® miRNA Arrays to measure expression of small non-coding RNA transcripts involved in gene regulation. The most current Affymetrix array for these studies is the Genechip miRNA 2.0 Array. Its cost is $265. The core facility uses the FlashTag™ Biotin HSR RNA Labeling Kit a  target labeling system designed by Genisphere® for Affymetrix® miRNA Arrays.

    Recommended RNA Inputs:

    100 ng - 1000 ng total RNA from tissue
    500 - 1000 ng total RNA from cultured cells

    The total cost per sample is $375. That includes a $110 miRNA Labeling and Hybridization Fee and the $265 GeneChip® miRNA 2.0 array.
