Services

The Genomic Expression and Microarray Core offers mouse and human cDNA microarrays printed on poly-lysine coated glass slides. In the near future, it will be possible to offer cDNA microarrays of other species as well as arrays of investigator-derived differentially expressed sequences.

The mouse microarrays are printed from the Incyte mouse Gem 1 arrayed library, which currently contains 3,205 UniGene annotated sequences and 4,649 ESTs. The human microarrays are derived from the Research Genetics Sequence Verified UniGene Library, currently containing approximately 6,000 annotated genes and 25,000 ESTs.

The Genomic Expression and Microarray Core will prepare cDNAs from polyadenylated mRNA provided by the investigator to be used as hybridization targets in the actual gene profiling experiments. These targets will be synthesized by a reverse transcriptase reaction that uses fluorescent Cy-3- and Cy-5-modified deoxyribonucleotide triphosphate precursors.

As part of its services, the Core will also perform the hybridization experiments, scan the slides and pass on the results to the investigator and to the Expression Technology Bioinformatics Core at University of Cincinnati for analysis.

Protocols for RNA preparation, hybridization, a complete list of services, and a current price schedule can be found on the University of Cincinnati Microarray Web site. The Core will also provide training for those investigators interested in setting up the technology (labeling, hybridization, scanning) in their own labs.
