Research Collaboration Opportunities

Microarray Data Analysis

The Division of Biomedical Informatics offers full-service bioinformatics analyses of microarray-generated data to investigators at Cincinnati Children's Research Foundation and the University of Cincinnati. Our support staff develops and maintains a gene expression database and manages a bioinformatics and statistical software suite. Our staff also provides on-site user support for GeneSpringTM software, conducts tutorials and workshops on microarray data analysis, and provides comprehensive data management and analysis.

Specific services include, but are not limited to:

  • Consultation on experimental design
  • General statistical consulting
  • Data management and preparation (e.g., pre-processing)
  • Biostatistics and bioinformatics support for all types of microarray platforms: two-color cDNA, one-color and two-color oligonucleotide, Affymetrix
  • Microarray data normalization and identification of differentially expressed genes
  • Microarray data visualization and exploratory analysis (e.g., clustering)
  • Data analysis, interpretation and report preparation
  • Assistance on grant or protocol submission (e.g., preparing a statistical analysis plan or database description)
  • Manuscript review and preparation

Getting Started

To request a GeneSpring account, complete and submit our system access form. A division representative will contact you within a few business days with more instructions.

To request other services, or to inquire about grant collaboration, contact Bruce Aronow or Mario Medvedovic (contact information below or to the right) to set up a free consultation. During this consultation, we will discuss your experimental goals and the tools/experimental designs necessary to provide analysis. We also will determine any analysis exceeding the basic comparative analysis and gene listing provided with the use of our software. Based on the project's scope, we will determine any costs for the type of analysis you are requesting. More extensive grant development and collaboration support is also available.

Our involvement here is designed to lead to co-authorship on publications, submissions for grant-funded research, and/or the grant itself. Support written into the grant is expected to include funding of one bioinformatics full-time employee, 5-20% funding for a bioinformatics PI, and 20-40% funding for a postdoctoral fellow or graduate student.
