Natural Language Processing
The amount of information found in free-text, like dictations, is extraordinary. Ways to retrieve and analyze it, however, are not well understood. Natural Language Processing (NLP) uses computers to understand these free-text. The NLP lab at Cincinnati Children's Research Foundation focuses on applying and developing NLP tools to the clinical setting.
The lab has been active in understanding how to automatically apply billing codes to clinical free-text and integrating genomic and clinical information for suggesting the optimal drugs for pediatric patients with depression, epilepsy, autism and ADHD.
Members of the NLP lab include John Pestian, PhD, Chris Brew, PhD, Wlodzislaw Duch, PhD, Pawel Matykiewicz, DJ Hovermale and Malik Spencer.
