Research Interests
The expertise and experience of the PPRU investigators in designing and performing pediatric phase I/II, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies enables the PPRU to contribute to all phases of the drug development process. The PPRU faculty at Cincinnati Children's is particularly interested in pharmacogenetics, population PK-PD modeling, immunosuppression and neuropharmacology and has specific expertise in performing clinical trials in these areas in children and adolescents.
Some of the disease categories of interest include epilepsy, autism, and infectious diseases. At this PPRU site, the faculty is familiar with issues and safety to evaluate new molecular entities (NME's) for studies in support of a new drug application (NDA) submission. They have experience in providing consultation to investigators and the pharmaceutical industry with regard to all stages of the development of new drugs, to assure proper study design and data collection for safe and effective use of these drugs in children.
The group has also worked with marketed compounds to extend their safety, efficacy and labeling information into the pediatric population as part of the Best Pharmaceuticals for Children Act (BPCA) related initiatives.
