Overview
The Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center Viral Vector Core at the Division of Experimental Hematology and Cancer Biology offers production of research-grade retroviral and lentiviral vectors, generation of stable producer lines, and non-GMP quality control testing including vector titer by functional assay or PCR, mycoplasma, sterility, RCR and RCL testing. (You can view details about our Retroviral and Lentiviral Vector Production here.) Retrovirus for clinical application is produced in the Vector Production Facility, which is a validated cleanroom for the production of viral vectors for Phase I/II clinical studies in compliance with FDA current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).
The Viral Vector Core, the Translational-Trials Development and Support Laboratory (TTDSL) and the Cell Manipulation Laboratory (CML), are part of Translational Research at the Division of Experimental Hematology and have been listed as a shared resource of the Ohio State Comprehensive Cancer Center (OSUCCC)-Cincinnati Children's Cancer Consortium. Research-grade AAV and Adenoviral vectors are made available through a collaboration with the Columbus Research Institute. Vector development is provided in collaboration with Dr. Axel Schambach and Prof. Dr. Christopher Baum, at the Department of Experimental Hematology at the Hannover Medical School in Hannover, Germany.
Service Requests
To request service from the Cincinnati Children's Viral Vector Core, download a request form. For larger orders, and for investigators outside of Cincinnati Children's, a production agreement may be required. For vector for clinical application, please contact the core director.
Biosafety
Before vector can be provided, Cincinnati Children's investigators must have a biosafety protocol for use of such vectors that has been approved by the Institutional Biosafety Committee. Information regarding submission of a biosafety protocol at Cincinnati Children's (for Cincinnati Children's investigators only) can be found on CenterLink. Investigators at other institutions are advised to contact their local institutional biosafety committee prior to ordering vector.
Costs
The Vector Core accepts the following methods of payment:
- Internal Budget Number (to be used for Cincinnati Children's investigators only)
- Purchase Order
- Credit Card
Costs for services are billed to the respective account or charged to the PO or Credit Card through the Cincinnati Children's Research Administration Service Center. For services provided to investigators at other institutions, fees include standard overhead charges. You can download current Vector Core Pricing here (overhead charges can be subtracted for CCHMC investigators).
