Robert H. Beekman, III, MD, is Professor of Pediatric Cardiology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center in Ohio.
Beekman's subspecialty interests involve cardiac catheterization and interventional cardiology.
A native of California, Beekman graduated summa cum laude from Occidental College in Los Angeles, CA, and earned his MD from Duke University in Durham, NC.
Beekman completed his pediatric internship and residency at UCLA Medical Center, and his pediatric cardiology fellowship at the University of Michigan Medical Center, Ann Arbor, MI.
Beekman also obtained a master's degree in Statistical Analysis and Research Design from the University of Michigan.
From 1985 to 1996, Beekman was a member of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at the University of Michigan School of Medicine. Since 1996, he has been director of Cardiology at Cincinnati Children's, and professor of pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine.
Beekman's academic interests relate to cardiac catheterization, and he has made numerous scholarly contributions in the field of hemodynamic assessment and transcatheter intervention for congenital heart disease. He is also leading a national collaborative project for Quality Improvement in Pediatric Cardiology.
Beekman has been active in the cardiology community, locally and nationally. Currently he is the Chair of the Section on Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Southwest Ohio Chapter of the American Heart Association, and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Cincinnati Children's Heart Association. Beekman has been a member of the Executive Committee and the Training Committee of the American Heart Association Council on Cardiovascular Disease in the Young.
Beekman is currently on the editorial board of The Journal of Interventional Cardiology, and a contributing editor of theheart.org, an Internet cardiology journal.
