Programs
The Mayerson Center for Safe and Healthy Children at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center has five main program initiatives:
- Development of primary prevention and treatment models
- Development and dissemination of best practices in the clinical and forensic evaluation of child maltreatment
- Investigation of the neurodevelopment effects of maltreatment and trauma
- Promotion of healthy parenting in the general population
- Informing public policy to promote healthy families and prevent child abuse and neglect
The center's objectives are to:
- Minimize the pain and trauma experienced by abused children
- Reduce the potential for re-victimization of the child
- Improve the community's ability to recognize abuse
- Increase the successful prosecution of offenders
- Decrease the prevalence of abuse and neglect
- Assist families to provide safe and nurturing homes
- Research new prevention, evaluation and treatment strategies
These objectives are being met by creating unique collaborations and partnerships with community agencies and experts, including private social service agencies, the Department of Human Services, law enforcement and private foundations.
