Bio

Basilia Zingarelli, M.D., Ph.D. graduated in July 1990 in Medicine at the University of Messina, Italy.

After attending for one year the fellowship program in Medical Toxicology, Dr. Zingarelli entered the graduate program in Experimental Medicine with special focus on Pharmacology at the University of Messina, Italy, where she obtained her Ph.D. degree in 1997.

During her graduate training from 1992 to 1993 Dr. Zingarelli studied the role of nitric oxide in hemorrhage and trauma at the Department of Experimental Pharmacology at the University “Federico II” of Naples in Italy.

From 1993 to 1995, she was invited as a visiting Research Associate at the Department of Physiology at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston in the laboratory of Dr. James A. Cook. Her research efforts focused on the pathophysiological mechanisms of sepsis and the innate immune processes that render patients susceptible or resistant to bacterial infections.

Dr. Zingarelli came to the University of Cincinnati in 1995 to continue her training as a post-doctoral fellow at the Division of Critical Care Medicine, at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, where she was promoted to Research Instructor in 1997.
