What's New in Experimental Hematology and Cancer Biology
The research scientists in the Division of Experimental Hematology and Cancer Biology regularly contribute many notable achievements both to the community of Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and to the world-wide scientific community.
The following accomplishments by Experimental Hematology and Cancer Biology faculty represent only a portion of the research taking place at Cincinnati Children's Research Foundation.
Announcements
- Drs. James Mulloy, Jose Cancelas and Susanne Wells have recently been promoted to Associate Professor with tenure, Dr. Han Van der Loo to Research Associate Professor, and Dr. Hartmut Geiger to Associate Professor, within the Department of Pediatrics, University of Cincinnati (October, 2008).
- Dr. Nancy Ratner has been honored to receive the Beatrice Lampkin Endowed Chair of Cancer Biology for her outstanding contribution to cancer research. The ceremony was held on December 18, 2008 at the Fifth Third Bank Auditorium, CCHMC.
- Yi Zheng, Ph.D., has accepted the appointment as Director of the Division of Experimental Hematology and Cancer Biology at CCRF, effective on January 9, 2009. Dr. Zheng also serves as an Associate Director of the incipient Cincinnati Children's Institute for Cancer and Blood Diseases and as an Associate Director for Basic Science in the Cincinnati Cancer Consortium. He has been serving in these roles on an interim basis for the last 16 months. Dr. Zheng has over 150 publications in leading, peer-reviewed journals, and currently has five different NIH R01 grants. He was named the Katherine Stewart Waters Professor of Pediatrics in 2006 in recognition of his outstanding scientific contributions (January 2009).
- The 7th Annual Midwest Blood Club will be hosted by Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center on April 30 - May 1, 2009. The symposium, co-organized by Drs. Jim Mulloy and Lee Grimes from Division of Experimental Hematology, will include two exceptional plenary speakers, Dr. Jonathan Licht from Northwestern University and Dr. Dennis Hickstein from NIH. The meeting will present exciting overview of the blood-related research in the Midwest scientific community. The abstract submission deadline is March 7, 2009.
