Seminars
The Divisions of Experimental Hematology and Hematology/Oncology announce sponsorship of the new Experimental Hematology/Hematology Oncology Seminar Series. This program invites leading international researchers in basic, translational, and clinical aspects of hematology and cancer to visit Cincinnati Children's to meet faculty and trainees, and to present their work in a seminar environment. In addition, at least one speaker each year will be the specific invitee of the graduate students and postdoctoral and clinical fellows in Experimental Hematology and Hematology/Oncology. Members of the Experimental Hematology and Hematology/Oncology Divisions are encouraged to identify and nominate potential speakers. The faculty organizers are Michael Jordan, MD and Paul Andreassen, PhD; the contact person is Kenya Lyles at 513-636-0730.
A seminar series sponsored by the Cincinnati Children's Research Foundation and the Graduate Program in Developmental Biology is held every Wednesday at Noon in CHRF 3381. This seminar program is open to the public. The series seeks to feature outstanding scientists who have made significant contributions of interest to the research programs in the CCRF. Emphasis is placed on bringing new advances in our understanding of mechanisms underlying normal development and how these processes can go awry. The faculty organizer is Masato Nakafuku and the contact person is Christina Carr at 513-636-8543.
Workshops
The Experimental Hematology Journal Club provides a platform for faculty members, postdoctoral fellows, and students to discuss the exciting new discoveries in the general areas of stem cell biology, signal transduction, genotoxicity, and gene therapy. The Journal Club runs every Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm with a format alternating between journal index club and selected paper presentations. The index club covers more than ten journals uncluding Nature, Science, Cell, PNAS, JEM, Blood, EMBO, and MCB. The contact person for the Journal Club is Keisha Steward at 636-1060.
The Immunohematology Club Seminar Series is a biweekly forum for investigators working in the intertwined fields of immunology and hematology to present research updates. The faculty organizer is Christopher Karp, MD, Director, Division of Molecular Immunology. The contact person is Barb Burch at 636-0281.
Retreats
The Stem Cell Clonality and Genotoxicity Retreat provides a platform for leading researchers to discuss and review the current state-of-the-art with regard to insertional modifications of somatic, fetal and embryonic cells. Discussions will focus on the substantial and exciting progress the field has made in the past 5 years in understanding the relationship of vector insertion, gene activation, gene mutation and vector design on stem cell behavior. The retreat will facilitate discussions about novel vector systems and targeted gene delivery approaches as well as the safety and efficacy of gene therapy clinical trials. The contact person for this retreat is Fannie Beasley at 513-636-1333.
