Meet the Lab

Jen Hawkins received her BS in Psychology from Towson State University. She is a Research Assistant IV. Jen's research interests include the study of intestinal peptides; specifically uroguanylin. Additionally, Jen participates in clinical research studies involving diarrheagenic E. coli and human vaccine trials.

Dr. Ju-Xian Mao's research involves looking for STa activation of phosphorylated ERK in CaCo2-BBE cells. She received her MD from Xinjiang Medical College in China and is currently a Research Assistant IV.

Dr. Elizabeth Mann, PhD is a Research Associate in the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition. She obtained her degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo, Roswell Park Division. Currently she is working to identify and characterize novel receptors, which in addition to the guanylyl cyclase (GC-C) receptor, mediate the biological activity of guanylin and uroguanylin.

Dr. Monica Garin-Laflam, MD is a research fellow in the Division of Gasteroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition.  She received her medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine.  She is studying the regulation of apoptosis and cell cycle progression in intestinal epithelial cells.
