Overview
The mission of the Division of General and Community Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is to improve child health through excellence and leadership in general pediatric health care, education, research, and advocacy which values family, the contributions of division members and promotes shared commitment and community collaboration.
Within its four sections of clinical care, education, research and community pediatrics, the Division of General and Community Pediatrics has over 70 staff members. They include 19 full-time or adjunct faculty, consisting of 17 MDs and two PhDs in education and distance learning and nutritional epidemiology; 21 staff physicians; two pediatric nurse practitioners; and over 80 volunteer community faculty.
The division's clinical and academic activities encompass extensive primary care services, an inpatient hospitalist service, federally funded educational programs, including community-based training, a research fellowship and education research, and externally funded population-based clinical research.
The Division's faculty is well-funded and conducts research on a wide variety of primary care topics including:
- Calcium and bone metabolism
- Maternal and child health
- School-based health
- Asthma, lead and environmental health
- Neuro-toxicity and behavioral health
- Health disparities of minorities
- Breast-feeding of multiples
In addition to hospital-based faculty, the Cincinnati Pediatric Research Group (CPRG) a community based research network, investigates issues related to pediatric primary care. They are currently doing research on asthma, obesity and the development of a biological surveillance system.
