Molkentin Lab

Regulation of Cardiac Development

The laboratory is also interested in understanding the early transcriptional regulatory code that specifies the cardiac myocyte cell lineage during embryonic development. Transcription factors such as Nkx2.5, GATA4, GATA6, TBX5, HAND1, HAND2, MEF2, and SRF are thought to generate a combinatorial code that directs the determination and differentiation of cardiac myocytes. Using genetic loss-of-function approaches in the mouse, the laboratory is attempting to dissect the critical components of this transcriptional code.
