Bio
Ann W. Kummer, PhD, CCC-SLP is Senior Director of Speech Pathology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
Under her direction, the speech pathology program at Cincinnati Children's has grown to be one of the largest and most respected in the country. Dr. Kummer does frequent lectures on professional business practices and is one of the authors of the text entitled Business Practices: A Guide for Speech-Language Pathologists. Dr. Kummer was one of the main developers of rehab software that won the 1995 International Beacon Award through IBM / Lotus.
As a clinician and researcher, Dr. Kummer specializes in speech and resonance disorders secondary to cleft palate, craniofacial anomalies, and velopharyngeal dysfunction. She is a member of the Craniofacial Anomaly Team at Cincinnati Children's and at Shriners Hospital, and also serves the Velopharyngeal Dysfunction Clinic.
Dr. Kummer does many lectures and seminars on a national and international level. She is the author of many professional articles and book chapters in speech pathology and medical texts. She is the author of the text entitled Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Anomalies: The Effects on Speech and Resonance (Thomson Delmar Learning, 2001) and the co-author of the SNAP test that is incorporated in the Nasometer equipment (KAYPentax, Lincoln Park, NJ).
Dr. Kummer has received honors of the Southwestern Ohio Speech and Hearing Association (SWOSHA); honors of the Ohio Speech and Hearing Association (OSHA); distinguished alumnus award from the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders of the University of Cincinnati; the Director's Award for Excellence as an honor from her staff and was elected Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) in 2002.
Dr. Kummer received her bachelor's degree and master's degree from Indiana University and her PhD from the University of Cincinnati.
