Bio

Richard A. Meyer, MD, has been an attending cardiologist at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center since completing his fellowship there in 1972.

Dr. Meyer has spent his entire career developing and promoting all phases of the use of echocardiography in infants, children and adults who have acquired and congenital heart disease. In addition, he directs the Congential Heart Disease Clinic at University Hospital.

Dr. Meyer authored one of the first textbooks on pediatric echocardiography in 1977 and well over 100 articles and chapters regarding many aspects of the technology.

Research interests of Dr. Meyer's have included investigations of the effects of ultrasound on the fetus and embryo, as well as exploring the safety and efficacy of intracoronary ultrasound in young children.

As Co-Director of the Marfan / Ehlers Danlos Syndrome Clinic, Dr. Meyer is investigating the cardiac complications in patients with Marfan syndrome and Ehlers Danlos syndrome.

Dr. Meyer is a nationally and internationally respected echocardiographer. He has been invited as a visiting professor throughout the United States, South Africa, Japan, Holland, India and Israel.

Dr. Meyer has trained more than 70 fellows in Pediatric Cardiology, many of whom have come from outside the United States.

Dr. Meyer is a member of many professional organizations and has served as President of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine and the Society for Pediatric Echocardiography.

Dr. Meyer has been a board member of the American Society of echocardiography, the World Federation of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology.

Dr. Meyer has also served on the editoral boards of numerous journals.
