The inpatient units provide comprehensive, crisis-oriented, acute psychiatric treatment to children, adolescents, and young adults ages 0 through 21. The growing demand for psychiatric services for children and adolescents has led to an increasing number of patients receiving care in our clinical programs. The Inpatient Psychiatric Units admitted more than 2,100 patients with more than 17,000 patient days. Both services saw a substantial increase in the amount of partial hospital patients totaling 1,650 patient days.
Outpatient services have diversified with the creation of several disorder-specific clinics, allowing more individualized treatment for a variety of patients. These specialty clinics, along with our outpatient psychotherapy services, served patients with more than 10,000 outpatient visits. The inpatient psychiatric consultation service evaluated 782 children on a variety of problems ranging from suicidal behavior to severe psychosomatic conditions. Psychiatric emergency consultations have continued to increase, with a total of 3,400 children seen in the Emergency Department.
