Psychiatry Research
The Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Cincinnati Children’s is engaged in psychiatric research in a wide range of key areas. Thanks to funding support from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and several other major funding resources, we are able to conduct studies ranging from clinical trials of medication to long-term longitudinal studies of large subject groups.
Our current research explores a variety of topics related to child and adolescent mental health. Several ongoing studies are investigating the use of new cognitive behavioral and pharmacological therapies in pediatric and young adult populations. We are also one of four sites conducting a longitudinal study of outcomes for children with mania, and we are collaborating with the Gene Discovery Core at Cincinnati Children’s to investigate the use of exomics to diagnose and treat mood disorders. Finally, the aggression predictive scale we developed through our Aggression Assessment study is gaining notice in the United States and beyond as a predictor of violence for psychiatric inpatient admissions from emergency departments.
