Learning and Development Project

The Learning and Development Project (LDP) is a recently completed study examining psychosocial functioning in adolescents with spina bifida and non-verbal learning disability. Funded by the National Institute on Disabilities and Rehabilitation Research, the LDP was conducted with collaborators Drs. M. Douglas Ris and Sonya Oppenheimer.

Specifically, the LDP recruited four groups of participants:

  • children and their families with spina bifida and non-verbal learning disability
  • those with spina bifida but without non-verbal learning disability
  • those with non-verbal learning disability but not spina bifida
  • and those without any disability.

Children were aged 10-16, and were assessed at two time points separated by 18 months in order to track changes over the period of development. As this project has only recently been completed, data analyses are ongoing and results are forthcoming.
