Lori E. Crosby, PsyD, is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, within the Division of Behavioral Medicine and Clinical Psychology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC), and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Dr. Crosby's broad research interests are in understanding the impact of health conditions (e.g. chronic illness, chronic pain) on adolescent and family quality of life, particularly health conditions which disproportionately affect ethnically diverse youth. She is also interested in determining factors which facilitate adolescent adherence/ compliance with complex medical regimens and training the next generation of evidenced-based clinical researchers.

For the past four years, Dr. Crosby was the lead behavioral clinician at the CCHMC site for a randomized clinical trial funded by the National Institutes of Health – National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), examining effective treatments for childhood social phobia.

Currently, Dr. Crosby is the Training Director for the O'Grady Residency in Psychology program. In her role as Training Director, Dr. Crosby provides clinical supervision/ teaching in the areas of Sickle Cell Disease, cognitive-behavioral therapy, chronic pain, adolescent development, and treatment of anxiety and depression. Dr. Crosby is the Consultant Psychologist for the Cincinnati Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center and is involved in collaborative research projects examining family coping, measurement development, treatment adherence, and nutrition/ health assessment. She is the principal investigator for a study examining the relationship between health beliefs/ attitudes [Adobe PDF] and coping in adolescents and young adults with Sickle Cell Disease. Dr. Crosby is also the site Principal Investigator for an NIH-funded study examining neuropsychological dysfunction in neurologically intact adults with Sickle Cell Disease.

Dr. Crosby serves as program evaluator for an educational services project aimed at increasing community awareness of Sickle Cell trait and hemoglobinopathy confirmatory testing. Dr. Crosby is also one of the Co-Directors of INNOVATIONS, a Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) Divisional Mentoring and Community Outreach program, which provides program evaluation and consultation services for non-profit community-based agencies, including United Way, and local school systems. Dr. Crosby's long term research goals are to develop, evaluate and disseminate culturally-appropriate interventions to improve the quality of life of adolescents and families affected by chronic health conditions.
