Annual Zoo Day Event is an educational program for families of children ages zero to six with Sickle Cell Disease held at the Cincinnati Zoo. Clinic staff and families meet at the Zoo and play games, have lunch and discuss important health care topics like managing fever, pain, and dactilytis.
Sickle Cell: Beyond the Basics a public forum for families affected by Sickle Cell Disease and interested community members was held on Sunday, April 10, 2005. This Forum was the kick-off event for the 28th Annual Meeting of the National Sickle Cell Disease Program sponsored by the National Institutes of Health. The Forum began with live jazz and lunch followed by educational presentations focusing on the advocacy, patient care, and research.
Camp Wish A Star is a week long summer camp for children with Sickle Cell Disease ages 7 to 16 and their siblings. The week long camp is held at Joy Outdoor Education Center, in Clarksville, Ohio, in July of each year. Youth and their siblings participate in a variety of activities including swimming, rafting, outdoor games, and educational sessions.
A Silent Auction to raise money for community awareness and education is sponsored annually by the Sickle Cell Awareness Group of Greater Cincinnati.
