The ABC Study focuses on examining patterns of adherence rates over time for children with new-onset epilepsy and identifying the factors that best predict adherence to anti-epileptic drug therapy for children with epilepsy over time. Participants are asked to complete questionnaires to assess psychosocial variables (e.g., barriers, knowledge, parenting stress, family functioning, and child psychopathology) over time. The relationship between these variables and electronically monitored adherence data in pediatric epilepsy are also examined. When the proposed study is complete, it is our expectation that the key targets for a clinic-based adherence intervention will be identified.
