Child Behavior and Nutrition Research Program - The Families Understanding Nutrition Project (FUN Study)

Scott Powers, PhD, ABPP

The Powers Lab is focused on development and dissemination of biobehavioral interventions to improve dietary adherence in young children with chronic illnesses such as cystic fibrosis, type 1 diabetes, and obesity. Research focused on these three conditions has resulted in numerous publications and abstracts. The Families Understanding Nutrition project (The FUN Study) has been supported by the:

  • National Institutes of Health (NIH)/National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK);
  • United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) - Economic Research Service (ERS) and Food and Nutrition Service (FNS);
  • Cystic Fibrosis Foundation; and Genentech Foundation for Growth and Development.

Members of the Center for Child Behavior and Nutrition have been very successful in obtaining career development awards (at the fellowship, assistant professor, and mid-career levels) from the NIH, including support from the NIDDK, National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), and National Institute of Research Resources (NCRR).

Interdisciplinary postdoctoral research training for this Center is supported by an NIH/NIDDK Institutional National Research Service Award (T32), offering 2 new positions each year.

The Center also actively collaborates with the NIH-funded General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) at Cincinnati Children's.
