Helmut R. Roehrig, PhDDr. Helmut R. Roehrig is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and the Division of Behavioral Medicine and Clinical Psychology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC). Dr. Roehrig joined CCHMC in 1999 and works at the main campus in HealthWorks! and the Comprehensive Weight Management Center. Dr. Roehrig earned his BS in Psychology and MA in Clinical Psychology at Xavier University. He earned his PhD in Clinical Psychology, with a subspecialty in Child Psychology, at the University of Southern Mississippi. He completed his internship and postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Child/Pediatric Psychology at the University of Louisville Medical Center, Kosair Children's Hospital. Carrie Piazza-Waggoner, PhDDr. Piazza-Waggoner is a postdoctoral fellow in pediatric psychology. Her funding is from a T32 training grant in Child Behavior and Nutrition. She obtained her Bachelor of Science from Denison University in 1998. Dr. Piazza-Waggoner then completed her clinical internship as an O'Grady resident at CCHMC and obtained her doctoral degree from West Virginia University in 2004. Dr. Piazza-Waggoner's main area of interest is how family functioning relates to a family's ability to adhere to nutritional recommendations. She is currently working with Dr. Meg Zeller examining health related quality of life and family functioning in families with a child seeking treatment for weight management. Additionally, she is working with Dr. Scott Powers examining the treatment durability of a behavioral intervention targeted to increase calorie intake in young children with cystic fibrosis. Using a family-systems based model, Dr. Piazza-Waggoner is currently 1) examining the impact of family functioning at mealtimes on children with diabetes and their families and 2) assessing family functioning in families with a child seeking weight management treatment. Jennifer Reiter-Purtill, PhDJennifer Reiter-Purtill earned her doctoral degree from the University of Cincinnati in 2004. Her main area of interest is in health psychology. Her interests include the social and emotional adjustment over time of children and adolescents with serious chronic illnesses such as cancer and sickle cell disease. She is currently a research fellow working with Dr. Meg Zeller's group. Her primary focus has been examining peer relationships, emotional well-being, and family functioning of children participating in a weight management program. Richard Boles, MSRichard Boles, MS, is an O'Grady resident at CCHMC. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia and is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Kansas. Richard's main areas of interests are on the prevention and reduction of pediatric injuries and evaluating surgical interventions targeting adolescents with severe obesity and behaviors associated with positive outcomes (e.g., reduction and prevention of obesity-related comorbidities). Richard has worked with Dr. Ann McGrath-Davis, a past CCHMC postdoctoral fellow, on examining the health behaviors and obesity prevalence among urban and rural children. Christina Ramey, RAChristina Ramey is the research coordinator in Dr. Meg Zeller's lab. In 1999 Christina started at Cincinnati's Children's Hospital as a volunteer, while working on her undergraduate degree. After graduating from the University of Cincinnati, Christina accepted a position as Research Assistant II and has continued this line of work for the past 3-½ years. Christina oversees all of Dr. Zeller's studies to ensure that the day to day progress of the projects function smoothly and effectively. Her main responsibilities include performing clinical research duties according to the established protocol, assisting with recruitment and retention of study participants, data collection, supervision of data entry, and management of databases. Other responsibilities include training research personnel and volunteers. Christina also acts as a liaison for the department regarding Research Registration and the processing of newly hired Research Assistants. Christina is both excited and grateful to be working in this position, for it has given her the opportunity to develop professionally. What she enjoys most about her job is the interface she has with families, "because it is their involvement that adds to our knowledge as researchers." Christina appreciates the time in which the families have dedicated to participating in Dr. Zeller's studies, especially since it is on a volunteer basis. Lindsay Wilson, RALindsay Wilson graduated from Thomas More College in May 2005 with a BA in psychology. She is finishing up her first year as a research assistant in Dr. Brian Saelens' Lab, working on the CINPAC study and the Active Where? study. She recently joined Dr. Meg Zeller's Lab, and is working on the OUTLOOK and FamilyView studies. She also looks forward to working with Dr. Nicolay Walz. She has been involved with Dr. Zeller's research as a volunteer since 2002. As a student volunteer she collected data for the Exploring Barriers to Treatment study. Lindsay's current responsibilities include data collection and entry for OutLook and FamilyView and she is the coordinator for the FamilyView: Life study. She also enjoys visiting patients in clinic and getting to know each of them and their families. Patricia Marik, MAPatricia Marik is a graduate student in clinical psychology at Xavier University. She graduated with her bachelor degree in psychology from Marquette University in 2001 and earned her Masters degree in clinical psychology from Xavier University in 2003. She has been working with Dr. Zeller's lab for 2 1/2 years. Her doctoral dissertation, Psychosocial Factors Associated with Attrition from a Pediatric Weight Management Program, identified influences on premature withdrawal from HealthWorks!. Beginning in September, Tricia will be a pediatric psychology intern at Children's Hospital of Michigan. Stephanie Ridel, MAStephanie Ridel is a fourth year PsyD student at Xavier University. She graduated from the University of Toledo with her BA in psychology in 2002 and has earned her MA from Xavier University in 2004. Stephanie is currently volunteering in Dr. Meg Zeller's lab to gain experience in research by being involved with the FamilyView study. She is also working on her dissertation, Factors Relating to Friendship Versus Friendlessness in Obese Children, with Dr. Zeller. Stephanie is investigating factors related to friendship in an obese population, including depression and social self-efficacy. Kate Grampp, MAKate Grampp graduated with her Bacehor's Degree in psychology from Miami University in 2002. She received her Master's of Clinical Psychology from Xavier University in May 2004 and will earn her PsyD from Xavier in August of 2007. While Kate helps in the data collection for the FamilyView study, her main interest in the lab is in the OutLook study. She will be using some of the data collected for her dissertation, "Changes in Adolescent's Body Perceptions: Pre- and Post- Bariatric Surgery." She will be looking at body-esteem and body-efficacy in adolescents receiving the Bariatric weight loss surgery. Susannah CoastonSusannah is a first year Masters student in Mental Health Counseling program at the University of Cincinnati. She received her BS in Psychology from Xavier University in May 2003. Susannah has worked on various program evaluation projects including FamiliesFORWARD, Hamilton County Family Violence Prevention Project, Glad House and Cincinnati Public Schools. She has also assisted with research projects in the following areas: sickle cell disease, social anxiety, breast cancer, fibromyalgia, childhood obesity, Spina Bifida and non-verbal learning disabilities. In the future, Susannah hopes to become a vocational counselor for young adults from diverse backgrounds. Susannah has volunteered with Dr. Zeller's lab since 2002, assisting with data collection in the Exploring Barriers study, and currently the FamilyView and FamilyView Life studies.
