Parent Perceptions of Child and Adolescent Pain Behaviors

The primary objective of this study directed by Dr. Anne Lynch is to develop a pain behavior questionnaire that measures parents' perceptions of the types and frequency of pain behaviors observed in adolescents with chronic pain.

Sixty adolescents (ages 12-18) and their parents will be recruited from the Multidisciplinary Chronic Pain Clinic, the Headache Center in the Division of Neurology, and the Biofeedback Service in the Division of Behavioral Medicine and Clinical Psychology at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center to pilot test this questionnaire.

The long-term goal of this research is to determine how parent perceptions of adolescents' pain behaviors affect parenting decisions and behaviors, in terms of coping strategies, school attendance, and treatment adherence.
