Overview

Dr. Powers' research programs actively collaborate with colleagues across a number of divisions, programs, and centers at Cincinnati Children's and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, including Pulmonary Medicine, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Neurology, Hematology and Oncology/Sickle Cell Center, General Pediatrics, Rheumatology, Radiology, the Center for Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and the Obesity Research Center.
Currently, the Powers Lab is primarily focused on:
- a multi-site, randomized clinical trial of behavioral and nutrition treatment to improve growth in preschoolers with cystic fibrosis,
- laboratory and survey studies designed to better understand the development of obesity in low-income African American preschoolers,
- a multi-site research program examining dietary adherence in preschoolers with type 1 diabetes (in collaboration of Susana Patton of the University of Michigan),
- and a randomized clinical trial to investigate drug and non-drug therapy for chronic daily headache in youth is also a current focus.
Collaborative projects include:
- a multi-site clinical trial to test drug and non-drug treatment for juvenile fibromyalgia
PI: Susmita Kashikar-Zuck - a translational research study on the genomics of pediatric headache
PI: Andrew D. Hershey, - and multi-site studies combining qualitative and quantitative methods to inform development of culturally-aware and family-centered interventions for pediatric sickle cell pain
PI: Monica J. Mitchell - and a randomized clinical trial to investigate chronic daily headache in youth is also a current project
