Research Assistants
Education and Skills Needed for an RA
Education and Work Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in psychology or related area of study preferred
- Previous research experience
- Previous psychology related clinical experience preferred
- An interest in working with children
Required Skills:
- Demonstrate attention to detail, high clerical accuracy, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Enjoy working as a member of a team as well as possessing an independent work initiative
- Able to relate to and build rapport with diverse age and demographic backgrounds
- Computer literate and a working knowledge of software applications (word processing, spreadsheet and database)
- Analytical ability sufficient to compare data; mathematical ability sufficient to perform algebraic calculations and statistical analysis
- Ability to synthesize information and to create and deal with new situations by applying knowledge from past experiences
- Expressed willingness to teach others and share results; capable of meeting time demands necessary to run interventions
- Ability to perform experiments according to established procedures, to make accurate observations, to record test results and to analyze data
- Possess a working knowledge of scientific terminology

RA Educational Seminars
Research Assistants are strongly encouraged to attend monthly RA seminars which are designed to assist them in their current position and with career planning. At these seminars, a variety of educational topics are presented. Because these seminars are educational and will contribute to an RA's professional development, they can be included on resumes and graduate school applications. These seminars will also provide RA's with a chance to meet fellow RA's and faculty in psychology and in other divisions. These relationships can be a valuable resource for information about research, graduate schools, and careers.
