FamilyView Studies
The FamilyView Study, led by then T32 post-doctoral fellow, Dr. Avani Modi, focused on quality of life among obese children and adolescents pursuing weight management intervention. The main purpose of the study was to develop obesity-specific health-related quality of life questionnaires for youth ages 5-18. Additional aims included gaining a better understanding of how parents of obese youth view their own quality of life and the typical day-to-day stressors they experience in their parenting role.
The FamilyView: LIFE Study, led by then T32 post-doctoral fellow, Dr. Carrie Piazza-Waggoner, was designed to assess family interactions in families of children who are overweight, as well as healthy controls. Mealtimes have been found to be a good time to see families interacting. Thus, participation in the study involved a brief home visit from two research staff. Families completed questionnaires about family interactions and mealtime stress. Height and weight are obtained for each family member. Families were videotaped eating their evening meal.
KidsView Study
The primary aim of the KidsView Study was to aid in the development of a weight-related quality of life instrument for adolescents, the IWQOL-Kids in collaboration with Dr. Ronette Kolotkin, (Quality of Life Consulting, Durham,NC). At Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center 200 youth presenting for weight management treatment were recruited to complete a series of psychosocial questionnaires (HRQOL, self-concept, depression, physical self-efficacy) from which a series of publications and abstracts have been generated.
