In addition, a program decrease utilization of sedation for children undergoing CT and MRI (utilizing tools such as child life specialists, MR video goggles, and CT lightshows) was successful in reducing the frequency of sedation in CT and MRI by 31%.

Concerning academic performance, the department presented more scientific paper presentations at the annual Society for Pediatric Radiology Meeting, for three years running. The department had numerous, high quality publications. New programs have been organized in areas such as the Pediatric Brain Imaging Research Program (PBIRP) and PET/CT research. In the area of radiology informatics process improvement and research, the department launched an Automated Radiology Triage System (ARTS) that prioritizes patient reading lists based on acuity and improves and documents communication of results.
