Administrative Unit

The administrative unit is directed by the Multidisciplinary Clinical Research Center (MCRC) Director, David N. Glass, MD. Daniel J. Lovell, MD, MPH serves as Associate Director of the administrative unit.

Goals of the administrative unit are as follows:

  1. Provide executive leadership of the Center
  2. Coordinate the overall operation of the Center such that the synergism to be expected from the presence of a MCRC is realized
  3. Monitor the progress and conduct evaluative procedures on all aspects of the Center's operation
  4. Prepare the required progress reports and regulatory documentation
  5. Continue to foster and develop collaborative mechanisms whereby the Center will continue to receive viable applications for funding
  6. Provide the necessary financial, personnel and administrative services to the Center
  7. Integration of the MCRC with P30 Rheumatic Disease Core

The administrative unit functions through four subcommittees:

  1. Executive Committee and Clinical Studies Subcommittee:  This committee meets monthly and is comprised of Drs. David N. Glass, MD, Daniel J. Lovell, MD, MPH, and Edward H. Giannini, MSc, DrPH (Methodology Core).  This committee is responsible for the operations of the center and for its long-term planning.
  2. Internal Advisory Board:  This committee meets annually and reviews:  1)  the overall project progress; 2) plans for the resubmission; and 3) approves of the development and feasibility competition.  Present members include Thomas F. Boat, MD, Chairman of Pediatrics and of the Research Foundation; James Heubi, MD, Director of the GCRC.
  3. External Advisory Board:  The external advisory board has met twice in the current five year cycle. First, to review progress once the MCRC was established and secondly to aid in the selection of the grants for inclusion in the renewal of the MCRC. The members of the board at that time were: Robert Kimberly, MD, UAB, head of rheumatology and Director of the Birmingham / UAB MAMDC; David Fox, MD, Division of Rheumatology and Ron Laxer, MD, FRCPC, Head of pediatric rheumatology, Toronto Sick Children's Hospital.
  4. Community Board: Community Board of Directors.  The Community Board meets approximately three times per year and provides community impact into the operation of the MCRC and the Rheumatology Clinic.
