Through both collaborative and
independent research, our faculty focus on a number of investigational
areas. Bruce Aronow, PhD, and Anil Jegga, DVM, MRes, work toward the discovery
and analysis of gene regulatory networks. John Pestian, PhD studies
natural language processing of clinical information. Jun Ma, PhD,
studies modeling patterns of gene expression during embryogenesis, and
Jason Lu, PhD, studies patterns of gene expression and protein
interactions in metabolic pathways of human pathogens. Michael Wagner, PhD, conducts genome-wide association studies of diseases such as
juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, while Keith Marsolo, PhD, investigates
data warehousing and data mining, and Michal Kouril, PhD investigates
high-performance computing. Nathan Salomonis, PhD and his group are on the cutting edge of developing new software and algorithms to identify complex functional relationships from whole transcriptome data. S. Andrew Spooner, MD, MS, FAAP, is the Chief Medical Officer at Cincinnati Children's. He is also actively involved in patient-centered research on topics like alert fatigue and user overload.
Peter White, PhD is the chair of the Division of Biomedical Informatics at Cincinnati Children's and chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. In his research career, Dr. White has explored the development and application of novel approaches for disease gene discovery, including identifying causative genes for neuroblastoma, ADHD, autism, and congenital heart defects. He has also developed innovative approaches for integrating and disseminating clinical, phenotypic, and molecular data to researchers for promoting discovery and hypothesis validation.
