Davies Lab

  • Davies Lab Research

The Davies lab, part of the Division of Bone Marrow Transplantation and Immune Deficiency at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, works to understand the genetic mechanisms behind childhood cancer and patient response to treatment. Although modern medicine has a roughly 70 percent cure rate for childhood cancers, there is still much to be learned about which children are likely to be cured, and which may face relapse.

We conduct nationwide studies of children with cancer and survivors of childhood cancer. Our work with these groups investigates the side effects of cancer treatment. The chemotherapy used to treat cancers such as acute myeloid leukemia, for example, can cause leukemia in some patients. We are working, often in collaboration with colleagues at Cincinnati Children’s and beyond, to identify genetic variations that can signal which children might suffer these side effects.
