The Keswani Laboratory for Regenerative Wound Healing is an NIH funded group that focuses on understanding the mechanisms that underlie the fetus’ ability to regeneratively heal wounds and the development of novel strategies to achieve regenerative wound healing in postnatal tissue. We have identified a cellular pathway in fetuses that is permissive of this phenotype and are developing therapies that will reactivate this pathway in postnatal skin to result in scarless wound healing. If the goals of this work are realized, there may be significant implications, not only for treatment of wounds, but also for a broad range of diseases and conditions which are characterized by excessive fibroplasia.
