Mario earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry, specializing in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, from the University of Barcelona (UB), Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Since 2010, Mario has been a Research associate, working in the Pediatric Surgery, Orthopaedics and Bioengineering group (VHIR- Barcelona, Spain), and now at the Center for Cellular & Molecular Fetal Therapy at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. His focus is the study of neuromuscular diseases and congenital malformations, as well as the development of new cell therapy approaches for their treatment in different animal models with the purpose to further application to the human clinics, especially during fetal intrauterine period.
Marc earned his Ph.D. in Biology at the University of Barcelona (Spain) in March 201, having focused on the study of the neuronal function in different animal models of liver failure. During this research, he developed a new model to assess the motor function using neurophysiology methods where induction and recording of the motor evoked potentials without anesthesia in free moving rats was assessed. He has experience in study spinal cord injury as well functional neurophysiologic tests with knowledge on small and large animal experimentation, biology systems and molecular biology.
Alejandra (Alex) is pursuing her Ph.D. studies in the lab of Dr. Peiró, focusing on the therapy of spinal cord injuries and myelomeningocele with neural progenitor cells. She collaborates in many other projects within our group, all of them focused on the development of new cell therapy approaches in different animal models with the purpose to further application to the human clinics.
Paola is pursuing her Ph.D. with Dr. Peiró and Dr. Marotta in the Paediatric Surgery Orthopedics and Bioengineering Group at VHIR (Barcelona, Spain). Her research is focused on the study of the new in vivo and in vitro therapeutic approaches for the improvement of muscle regeneration and fibrosis prevention after skeletal muscle injury.
