Molkentin Lab

  • Regulation of T-Lymphocyte Development

We are studying the intracellular signaling pathways that mediate T-lymphocyte maturation and activation during antigen challenge. Specifically, the calcium-calmodulin-activated protein phosphatase calcineurin (PP2B) and its downstream transcriptional activator, NFAT, serve as important regulators of T-lymphocyte positive selection and activation following TCR stimulation. The lab is interested in understanding regulatory mechanisms in T lymphocytes in comparison with cardiac and skeletal muscle cells to enable the construction of a more comprehensive perspective on mammalian signaling circuitry.
