Edward Lowell Pratt

Paperback published September 19, 2002

Edward Lowell Pratt came off the press September 19, 2002, recording the era of the fourth B.K. Rachford Professor of Pediatrics, 1963 - 79. Under Dr. Pratt's leadership as chair of the Department of Pediatrics of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, chief of staff of The Children's Hospital, and director of The Children's Hospital Research Foundation, Cincinnati Children's saw significant growth in medical research and facilities. New pediatric divisions were created and existing ones expanded. Pediatric-related health care organizations were brought onto the campus, and tertiary pediatric care was centralized at Cincinnati Children's.

The 200-page paperback book Edward Lowell Pratt is the fourth in a series documenting the tenures of the Rachford Professors. The first three volumes, Benjamin Knox Rachford, Albert Graeme Mitchell and Alexander Ashley Weech, were authored by Robert A. Lyon, MD. The new addition to the series was written by attending pediatrician William Gerhardt, MD, who spent 10 years researching the history of the Pratt era.  William Schurbert, MD, and Clark West, MD, edited the text and have written forewards.
