Genetic Study of Anorectal Malformations

The Colorectal Center and the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center are conducting an Institutional Review Board-approved research study to identify genes that play a role in the development of anorectal malformations.

Who is eligible for this study?

Individuals of any age who were born with an anorectal malformation, along with their parents, are invited to participate.

We are particularly interested in studying families with more than one affected member, especially in more than one generation.

In addition to studies of anorectal malformations, we are also interested in studying families with more than one family member having other birth defects of the digestive system.

What happens during this study?

The study requires obtaining the medical history and a blood sample from individuals of any age who were born with an anorectal malformation, as well as their parents. Other unaffected family members may be helpful as well and may be requested to participate. All participation is voluntary.
