Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (JRA) / Family Blood Samples
Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (JRA) is a complex genetic trait, meaning a person needs to have a combination of different genes to develop the disease.
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to locate the areas of human chromosomes (genes) that are linked to JRA.
- Approximately 600 study families from 2 centers in US
- Participants include the child with the diagnosis of JRA, and willing family members (parents and siblings only)
- Participation is a one-time blood sample (a needle stick, usually in the arm)
- Clinical information (from the child's medical record) will be collected as study data; demographic information (name, address, phone numbers) will be collected from patients and family members
- For the child with JRA, collection of study blood sample can happen as part of a regularly scheduled appointment, at the same time the rheumatologist requires blood tests
- We will assist any interested family members' participation in the study by one of the following two options:
- Schedule coming to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center at a convenient time for them
- (For those living out-of-town) make arrangements with a lab / doctor's office close to where they live, and then have blood samples sent to Cincinnati Children's
