Lupus Puberty Study
Purpose
The purpose of this study is learn more about why systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is more common in females than males, and why it often seems to get worse during puberty.
- Approximately 50 participants (females eight- to twleve-years-old) from centers throughout US and Canada; three to five from Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center
- Approximately 13 study visits over three year study period
- Visits will always be combined with clinic visits to your doctor; participation may increase the length of your typical visit by 15 to 20 minutes
Study procedures at visits include:
- Physician to fill out special study forms
- Physician exam for stage of puberty
- Blood and urine samples
- Questionnaire about general health (three visits only)
- (Optional) 1x blood and urine sample for Genetic portion of study; see informed consent form for details
Compensation
There is no compensation for study participation.
