    Biography

    Andreas W. Loepke, M.D., Ph.D. is a physician-scientist whose professional efforts are divided between basic science research and his clinical staff position as a Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiologist in the Department of Anesthesia at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. His areas of expertise comprise the effects of anesthetics on the developing brain as well as the detection, prevention, and treatment of neonatal brain damage.

    After graduating from medical school in his native Germany, Dr. Loepke began training in Anesthesiology, Pain Medicine, and Intensive Care in Germany, followed by an internship in General Surgery at Pennsylvania Hospital and an a residency in Anesthesiology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. Following additional training in Pediatric Anesthesia and Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, he accepted a position as staff anesthesiologist at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and as an Assistant Professor of Anesthesia at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.

    Dr. Loepke directs a research laboratory in the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Research Foundation and chairs the Department of Anesthesia’s Data Safety Monitoring Board. Dr. Loepke is a frequent lecturer on the effects of anesthetics on the developing brain and has received several prominent awards for his research.

    Biography

    Mark Meyer, MD, is a board-certified anesthesiologist who completed his residency at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.

    Dr. Meyer joined the Department of Anesthesia in 2003 following his Pediatric Anesthesia Fellowship at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

    Dr. Meyer is a staff anesthesiologist, as well as an attending physician in the Division of Pain Management, caring for patients with acute pain. In addition, Dr. Meyer is an attending physician for StarShine Hospice, the pediatric hospice at Cincinnati Children's.

    In 2006, Dr. Meyer received his board certification from the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. He has been an integral part of the development and implementation of the Pediatric Palliative and Comfort Care Team / PACT at Cincinnati Children's.

    Dr. Meyer is the PACT consulting physician, partnering with families in order to offer a range of comprehensive, family-centered care for children with chronic, complex or life-threatening conditions.

    Biography

    Joseph Previte, MD, FAAP, performs all types of pediatric anesthesia, except cardiac. He is also part of the Fetal Anesthesia Care Team, Spine Surgery Care Team and Bariatric Team, and he is the Neurosurgery Champion for the Anesthesia department.

    Dr. Previte is interested in information technology in the health care setting and manages and directs several IT projects in the Anesthesia department. He is currently directing the implementation of Centricity, a perioperative-wide (from the preoperative evaluation through the postoperative note) computerized documentation system tailored for the anesthetic care of the pediatric patient. This system will be integrated with a perioperative-wide documentation system.

    Biography

    Alexandra Szabova, MD, joined the staff of Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center in 2006. She has worked as a pediatric anesthesiologist, but also became a team member of the multidisciplinary chronic pediatric pain clinic.

    Dr. Szabova demonstrated strong interest in pediatric chronic pain management during her training.
    She graduated from a combined pediatric and adult chronic pain management fellowship which was a result of close collaboration between the Cincinnati Children's and Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, OH.

    Dr. Szabova received her medical degree from the Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia, and completed her residency in Anesthesia at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, OH.

    Dr. Szabova completed her combined pediatric and adult chronic pain management at Cincinnati Children's and Cleveland Clinic Foundation where is served as a chief fellow. She graduated with The Pain Fellow of the Year Award. Dr. Szabova completed pediatric anesthesia fellowship at the Cincinnati Children's.

    Dr. Szabova's interests include chronic pediatric pain management, muskuloskeletal pain in children and adolescents, acute pain management of surgical and non surgical pediatric patients, regional nerve blocks, and pediatric anesthesia.

    Biography

    Luigi Viola, MD, graduated in 1991 at Catholic University of Rome Medical School. After completing residency in pediatrics, Dr. Viola started as clinical instructor in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Gemelli Hospital in Rome. In 2002 he became assistant professor of the Department of Pediatrics.

    Dr. Viola's achievements include the completion of his fellowship in Neonatology and Italian certification of anesthesiologist.

    In 2006, Dr. Viola started his Anesthesia Residency Program at the University of Florida (Gainesville, FL), completed in 2010. He also completed a Pediatric Anesthesia Fellowship Program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in 2011.

    Biography

    Norbert J. Weidner, MD, is a board-certified pediatrician as well as a board-certified anesthesiologist. Following training in pediatrics Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, as well as Dayton Children's Hospital, he pursued a fellowship in pediatric anesthesia/critical care/regional anesthesia in Melbourne, Australia, for one year.

    Upon completion of his fellowship in 1988, Dr. Weidner joined the Department of Anesthesia at Cincinnati Children's. In addition to his staff duties as an anesthesiologist, Dr. Weidner was an attending staff in the pediatric intensive care unit for approximately two years.

    To incorporate the fellowship training he received in Australia, Dr. Weidner began the pain management group at Cincinnati Children's. He has participated in the pain management group both in the care of acute postoperative pain as well as chronic pain management.

    In 2004, Dr. Weidner received Board Certification with the American Board for Hospice and Pallatiive Medicine. Dr. Weidner has been affiliated with the hospice service at Cincinnati Children's since its inception and currently serves as StarShine Hospice's Medical Director .

    Dr. Weidner is passionate about partnering with families to offer a range of comprehensive, family-centered care to children with chronic, complex or life-threatening conditions. His vision to address the needs of this patient population resulted in the development of the Pediatric Palliative and Comfort Care Team (PACT) here at Cincinnati Children's. Dr. Weidner serves as the director of this consulting service.

    Roxane Anderson, RN, CPNP, has worked at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center since 1975. She worked in the department of Hematology/Oncology until 1992. She began working in the department of Same Day Surgery in August 1992 and from there was hired by the Department of Anesthesia in July 2002.

    Biography

    Suzanne Black began her career as a staff nurse in adult oncology and later in a medical / surgical adult Intensive Care Unit / ICU setting before receiving her Master of Science in Nursing from Yale University as a family nurse practitioner.

    In 1990, Suzanne joined Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center in the Hematology / Oncology Division as a nurse practitioner.

    Suzanne remained with Hematology / Oncology until 2003, when she joined the Department of Anesthesia, fulfilling the role of Family Nurse Practitioner in the Same Day Surgery setting.

    Suzanne also served as a Family Nurse Practitioner for the Division of Pain Management, participating in the clinical care of patients with acute and chronic pain.

    In January of 2006, Suzanne transitioned her role in the Division of Pain Management to help develop and fill the position of Family Nurse Practitioner for the Pediatric Palliative and Comfort Care Team / PACT at Cincinnati Children's.

    Cynthia A. Moffitt, RN has been a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner since 2001. Her experience within Cincinnati Children's has been with the Short Term Assignment Unit and the Specialty Resource Unit. Both of these positions included nursing duties on all units throughout the hospital. She spent almost two years working in an adult ICU / CCU facility before returning to Cincinnati Children's.     Biography

    Prior to returning to Cincinnati Children's for her current position, Gretchen Rogers, CPNP, worked for several years providing primary care to children of poor and underserved areas withing the Cincinnati inner-city schools. During this time, she also provided primary care to many international families of multiple ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
